The idea of a home business is very attractive – get up when you want, work in your pajamas, etc. The reality however is that it requires discipline to effectively run a home business. Here is an article about learning how to be effective in running your home business.

Learning How To Work From Home Easily

by Warren F. Wooden

This generation is a generation that does not want to work in an office, they would much rather work from home and make a decent income. By far, the most attractive feature of working from home is going to be the ability to make your own hours as well as not exactly having a boss but being your own boss. So how do you make an income from your home? This article is going to go over some guidelines for you to follow.

The first thing you absolutely have to understand is that working out of your house is not a piece of cake. You can get distracted so easily, by the television, the stereo, the kids, the pets, your spouse, your partner, et cetera. It is thus vital to be certain you have plenty of time to devote to work and that you give yourself a quiet space to work.

Once you have met those qualifications, you are ready to think about what interests you. What can you do? There are any number of things you can do from home. The problem many people face is that they do not know what they want to do, or what they can do. Thus a little internet research will become necessary.

As mentioned, there are all kinds of options available to you. The key is making sure that you choose something that you can enjoy and that comes easily to you. So, let us take a look at some of the jobs that are available and how to tell if they will suit you.

Now, first of all, it has to be said that freelance writing, writing articles, or writing for blogs, are all very lucrative options. However, this is only true if you can write well. If you have a reader friendly and interesting style, an impeccable grasp of spelling, grammar, and the language, and you enjoy writing, this will be perfect for you. And yes, as a matter of fact, you can make quite the extra income this way.

There are some things that you should keep in mind whenever you are first starting out in freelance writing and that is realizing you are not going to make the major bucks right away. You first need to gain a huge base of clients and as those clients become happier and happier with you, then you will be able to ask for a raise and start making a decent amount of money.

You do not have to be a writer by trade in order to freelance write, however if that is not something that interests you, there are other options. One of them is actually selling items online. These are items that you can pick up from other countries or items that you find. This particular business is more difficult than freelance writing though, as you are actually putting things up for sale and you have to ship them, package them and of course make sure they work. That is where research comes into play; make sure you do it before you try to break into this business.

As you can see, there are quite a few different options available for you to work from home; you just have to make sure that you not only research but that you understand that you are not going to make a bunch of money right up front. However, working from home can certainly pay off, if you find the right niche that is.

Many readers of The Home Business Reader are involved in Multi-Level Marketing or Network Marketing. Both of these home-business models are based around “lead generation”. In order to be successful in either area, you need leads for your “downline” – those people who are going to sell and /or recruit for you – as well as to sell whatever product or service your business provides.

There are some very successful MLM’ers who’s business focuses on lead generation quantity. The idea is that with enough leads, they can push through “the sale”, whether that is for signing someone up or selling them a product or service. Others believe the quality of the lead is of paramount importance, since time spent on non-converting leads is wasted and can chew up all your time.

Below is an article I came across that talks about just that. It is reprinted with permission from the author; I hope you find it interesting.

MLM Leads: Quality Vs. Quantity

by Noah Matthews

Your home based business is only as good as the amount of people you share it with. What I mean by that is that even if you have the best business with the best products if you aren’t sharing it with as many people as possible you’re not going to make as much money as you otherwise could.

MLM leads are so important because when you have a lot of people to talk to you’re going to make money… period.

Whether you’re creating your own free leads online or locally or you’re buying leads from a company you’re going to be faced with a question at some point. Which is better, to have a ton of leads or to have fewer leads that are more high quality?

If you’re spending your money to buy leads is especially important to know which type of lead is better. Nobody wants to spend a bunch of money and make a bunch of phone calls only to get nothing or very little in return.

I believe that when it comes to buying MLM leads quality is always better than quantity.

Many companies sell their leads based on a lot of different criteria.

How new the leads are, how interested the prospect is in a home based business, how many other marketers are getting the same leads, and how much information you’re getting for each lead. Those are just a few things that the prices are based on.

Leads can cost anywhere from 1 cent per lead to $10 or more per lead. While I don’t think it’s a reasonable thing to expect home based business owners to spend thousands of dollars a month on leads for MLM I do believe that you should always go for the better quality lead.

Let’s say that your budget for buying leads each month is $200. You could get a ton of penny leads but most of those are going to be disconnected or the people will claim that they’ve never been interested in working from home. Or you can get a much smaller list of leads that will take you less time to sort through and you’ll probably get much better results.

So if you’re going to buy MLM leads spend your money wisely and invest in quality leads over quantity.

Want a sneak peek into the back office of a top producer to see how he get’s (http://www.secret-mlm-leads.com/) MLM Leads? This secret will blow your mind. Get Mike’s video’s right here: (http://www.secret-mlm-leads.com/) MLM Leads

Let me know what you think about the “Quantity versus Quality” debate. Do you go through a lot of leads in your home-based business? Do you find yourself spending too much time on non-converting leads? Or perhaps you have a very efficient or automated system to process large quantities of leads, in which case quantity is definitely important.

Let me hear from you, what ever your strategy is. And if you just happen to have a comment or question unrelated to either MLM or Network Marketing, it’s just as welcome here. In fact, if you have a particular question, or would like to see a specific home business topic discussed and explored, leave a comment below.

If you’re in the Network Marketing or Multi-Level Marketing business, then you know that leads are your lifeblood. Both for customers and building your downline sponsorship, the growth of your business depends on a steady stream of new leads.

Jim Miller, an expert in the MLM/Network Marketing sphere, wrote a very good article talking about the importance of leads: getting them via prospecting, managing your efforts, and qualifying them. I’ve reprinted his article below with permission.

by Jim Miller
When your MLM business is reliant on cold calls, referrals, instant messenger communications, and e-mails you already understand the significance of correctly qualifying prospects. You will need to understand about your prospect and his or her requirements and then figure out exactly how your product or service meets those requirements. Which means you require a qualified prospect.

What is considered a qualified prospect and where on earth do you find them. A qualified prospect is a person (or business) which needs or wants your product because it satisfies a requirement or handles some problem they possess. How will your prospective client know if what you’re providing is likely to help? They have by no means heard of you or your product or service until you contacted them. They’ll know simply because you’ve done your preparation before contacting them and know what will enhance their business. That is where very good solid Internet research comes in useful.

Now you start getting to understand your prospect, or in different terms, you begin relationship marketing. Over time talking with them, you’ll acquire a clear image concerning them and their needs, and you’ll know if you would like to work along with them on your Crew.

Keep in mind: Your products and solutions and your service and how you give it and perform business IS YOUR BUSINESS and you don’t need just anyone to help you build it.

Several may let you know right away that they are not interested. Several may call you names. Some just won’t understand exactly how you might possibly help them, until you educate them. And here’s something you need to understand and operate WITH, not against. A few prospects for your Team will rule themselves out with their particular questions to you.

For instance: Exactly how hard do I have to work to make any money? Just how fast can I make money? Is this an MLM scheme? You’ll recognize right away your business isn’t for them. Precisely why? Mainly because they will not perform to make your business function for them or for you. As well as you are not in business to lose business or customers.

Don’t squander numerous hours hoping to influence people to work with you. These people either want to because they acknowledge the value of the opportunity or they don’t want to and hounding them is not going to make any difference.

Bottom line: It is extremely essential to possess a never ending flow of qualified prospects to grow your Mlm or Network Marketing business. There are numerous methods to do this. Make sure you know your target market whenever going after your prospects, therefore boosting your return on investment.

Whether you’re just starting out with a part-time home-based business, or your home business is a full-time gig with employees, a marketing system can help or increase your success. Business owner Travis James wrote this article for other small-business owners, but it applies even to work-at-home business owners.

—————————–

by Travis James
In a perfect world every part of your company would work faultlessly. You’d sell more product, schedule more services, make more money. Sounds fantastic doesn’t it? The truth is that in real life, nothing ever works perfectly. If you aren’t selling products, or services you aren’t making any money. If your service is poor and you get a bad reputation, you’re not making money. If your product is breaking all of the time and word gets out, you’re not making money. This sounds more like your real life doesn’t it? The truth is there are so many negative things that can affect your business that it’s amazing any company can make a profit in this day and age.

Does Microsoft spend hundreds of millions of dollars on TV commercials just for the fun of it? Does Ford spend hundreds of millions of dollars on TV commercials just to show that Chevy trucks arent as good as theirs? They do all of these commercials because they have found them to be profitable to advertising on TV. They do it because they have developed marketing systems that work, and they stick to them. Why develop a marketing system for just Televison commercials? Well because it amazingly works! In fact they in all probability have a system for how their websites get updated, how they answer the phone, how particular problems with software or hardware are handled. In fact, I guarantee you that they have systematized absolutely every feature of their companies.

It’s amazing how many businesses I speak to each week that do not have any type of internet marketing system in place. A lot of people think systematizing a business is only for large corporations, it is definitely not. Having a system in place for every aspect of your company is essential to whether a company will be successful, or wilt and die out in the future.

Not only does systematizing a business make sure that every single task of your business is handled quickly and properly, it documents those tasks so if your accountant decides to leave for new opportunities, a new accountant could be hired, handed the systems and get to work right away. Any the new employees you hire will need to do is read the systems, apply the systems, and if they can follow directions well they will be ready to go! How much overhead time would this save your business in the long run. Think about it for a few minutes, training a new employee how to do every task of your business and answering countless numbers of questions that eat up your precious time versus handing the new employee a binder or cd full of all your businesses systems that they can read and apply almost immediately. Depending on the amount of responsibility each employee gets at your company this could amount to weeks of information that just got handed down through a binder containing all of the needed info! This means that none of your imperative employees need to spend countless hours training and hand holding a new employee. At my company I projected that it saves me roughly 200 employee hours, that is five weeks of time that I was losing before I systemized my business.

So the question is, why haven’t you created a marketing plan or marketing system for your business? The experts have already done it for you! Just Google search “marketing system” or “marketing plan” and you will get hundreds of results in all types of flavors that will suit your business! The initial investment will be low too. Most good ones start around $2000 and can go as high as $25,000. You could make up $2000 very quickly. If you hire a new employee and pay then $30.00 and hour, which would mean it would take you approximately 67 hours to earn back the money. If you normally spend weeks training them to perform at their job, you earn your money back on your very first hire! That’s not even including your valuable time!

So what are you waiting around for? Buy a marketing system for your business. Get the company you own systematized. Set up marketing systems so your company can succeed. Start reading email marketing blogs to find new strategies! Don’t just sit and wait for your competition to go out of business, be the more successful company and do it for them!

A successful network marketing business does not just happen. Like any other business it take planning and execution of those plans for success. The people who make it big in this business are the ones who make a plan and then work that plan every day.

Setting goals is critical to good use of your time and time is your most valuable commodity. Any time you are not working your plan is time you are wasting. Good goals you can measure are a great way to stay on track and utilized you more precious asset, your time.

You can look at goal setting and planning in three stages. The first is short term goals, the second is medium goals, and the last is long term goals. As you start to see how far this business can take you, very long term goals can also come into play.

The things you plan to get done this week are short term goals. Every week set aside one day to make a list of the things you want to get accomplished in the next seven days. These should be very specific and easily measured. They would be things such as, call Jack and Bill on Monday and meet with Marge and Mark on Tuesday. These weekly goals should be very specific and give you good directions.

These weekly goals are your to do list. You need to list exactly the little things you are going to do. Will you get them all done? Maybe not, but that doesn’t mean you failed. You should always do your best to get them done but sometimes things come up. Just realize how much farther along you can be by doing the ones you did get accomplished.

When you build monthly goals you are being less specific. This list will be things that will be plugged in your weekly list at appropriate times. For example, you may plan to generate two ad campaigns for your lead list or meet with your second level down line members. Or maybe you say each Wednesday is the day to give out 10 lead generation cards.

The monthly list works well for setting up training plans. You need to focus on both your own learning and that of the people below you. Maybe you say you will read one sales book per month or send out four training emails to your down line.

Yearly goals will be the big organizational goals you need in order to have a direction. This will include things like the number of new down line members you want this year. You then break this down into twelve parts and plug each one into a monthly goal list. In turn you will incorporate these into the weekly lists.

Your goals which are very long term are looking at where you want to be with this business. Do you want to be working full time at this in five years. Where do you want to live in ten years. This is the big dream stuff. These are the goals that keep you going on your weekly, monthly, and yearly lists.

Online marketing is the greatest boon to home-based businesses since the telephone. There truly is nothing like the internet to help you grow your business and reach your goals even faster.

However, if you’re going to spend several hours a day on online marketing you’ll want to look out for these time wasters so that you’re getting the most of your time online.

Time Waster: Browsing videos

I love video marketing and I highly, highly recommend it for anyone who is involved in a home based business. However, try not to get sucked into watching videos online instead of actually publishing your own. I’m sure that every single online marketer has been guilty of this at least once or twice. You’re on YouTube, or Revver or any other free video site and you see one video that peaks your interest. Then another video pops up and you watch that one… then another and then another…

I know watching videos is fun but it’s not going to help your business so get in, upload and edit your videos and get out.

Time Waster: Chatting on forums

Marketing on forums is another great way to get people interested in your business or product. Just don’t spend all day talking on forums when you could be doing other forms of marketing. Trust me it’s easy to let time get out of your hands when on a forum. Try setting a timer or an alarm for 20 or 30 minutes and only allowing yourself that much time per day to market on forums. This will stop you from chatting on forums all day and allow you to get more done.

Time Waster: Spending too much time on a blog

Look, you’re not writing for the New York Times don’t spend forever trying to come up with the perfect blog post. Just keep it simple and never spend more than 10 – 15 minutes a day updating your blog…. It doesn’t have to be perfect!

Time Waster: Organizing

It’s good to be organized but let’s be honest, organizing your home office or your desktop on your computer can hardly be called online marketing. Try getting all that out of the way beforehand and spend your time marketing doing just that… marketing. A prospect doesn’t care if your file cabinet is neat and tidy.

Stay away from these easy to avoid time wasters and you’ll be getting the most out of your marketing time and best of all success will be right around the corner!

If you’re under the age of 25 you are in an amazing position! Did you know that you can build a home based business in well under 5 years? That means you can be set for life by the time you’re 30! I told you… you’re in an amazing position!

When you are in your early 20’s you are setting yourself up for the rest of your life. Most men and women under 25 are in college trying to earn a degree that will help them lead a better life. However, did you know that by the time you get that degree you could have been earning 5, 6 or even 7 figures working from home?

I’m not telling you not to go to college, but you deserve to know that there are other options for young adults like you out there.

What I have found is that most people don’t even consider a home based business until they are much older. Until maybe they’ve been laid off or their life just isn’t going as planned, but what would happen if they started their own business when they were younger? Well they’d be in a much different position now that’s for sure.

Even if you’re excited about going to college a home based business can be the perfect part time job. Why? Because you can mold your work schedule to fit into your life. If you have classes in the mornings you can work at night and if you’re busy on the weekends you can work during the week only… it really is completely up to you!

One thing to look out for if you’re a young adult thinking about joining a home based business. Be prepared for people to tell you that you can’t do it. Many people are simply misinformed when it comes to home based businesses. They hear the words and they automatically think it’s a scam. This is just not true. There are many wonderful and completely legal home based businesses out there. So just get use to ignoring the haters.

If you do decide to start working from home you should know a few things:

1. All home based businesses cost money to start (the amount of money will vary from company to company
2. All home based businesses are different
3. The home based business of today is not the same as your parents MLM company from 15 years ago
4. Building a home based business isn’t an overnight thing and it will take work

If you feel that a home based business might be right for you start getting more information today, you could very well be set for life before the age of 30!

You’ve probably heard before that “the money is in the list” but what does that really mean? It means that the more people you have on your marketing list the better chance you have of signing up more people and therefore making more money in your home based business.

It is true that the money is in the list… so how do you build a giant prospecting list when you’re just getting started in your home based business? Or perhaps you’re not new to MLM you’re just new to the idea of list building. Either way, this article is designed to show you how to build the largest list possible in the shortest amount of time. Because the money really is in the list!

The first thing you’re going to want to do is set up a squeeze page. Squeeze pages are used by almost all serious internet marketers and they allow people to take a look at your website and business only after they give you their name and email address.

Some squeeze pages have lots of information the prospect needs to enter but really all you need is the first name and email. Many people aren’t comfortable putting in their phone number, address, or anything else and if you ask for it you won’t get as many opt-ins.

Once you get an opt-in they should be allowed to access your website and get the information they need. They will also be put into an auto-responder. An auto-responder is a program that sends out emails for you. This allows you to be doing other things for your business while the auto-responder markets to your prospects for you!

When a prospect is ready to talk to you personally they will pick up the phone and call you! This is the best thing in the world because you know they are really serious about working from home!

If you aren’t currently using a sqeeze page you need to get one, it’s the best thing that can happen to your online business. Many marketers use multiple squeeze pages in order to get the most opt-ins possible.

Another way to grow your list in a big, big way is by giving something away for free. People love free stuff I mean don’t you? By creating your own product (usually like a free report or an ebook) and setting up a website to give it away for free your opt-in list will grow by leaps and bounds! You’ll also of course have to make sure the product you give away is something that has to do with working from home that way your prospects will be targeted.

Don’t worry about bugging people with your emails because at the bottom of every email your auto-responder sends out there will be an opt-out link. That way the only people who stay on your list are the people who are really interested.

Finally, once you’ve set up your free product page and your business squeeze pages you’ll need to promote, promote, promote! If you don’t promote your websites only nobody (or very few) is ever going to find them. Use free sites like network marketing forums, twitter, myspace, face book, you tube and article websites to get the word out about your pages and you’ll have tons of free prospects in no time!

Follow these easy steps and you’ll have more prospects than you’ll have time to talk to in a day! Remember, your list won’t grow overnight or without some serious promotion but if you’re looking for a cost effective way to have lots and lots of people to talk to this the best method out there.

If you’re a part of a home based business you’ve probably struggled with finding the time to work your business. If you have you are not alone. Almost everyone I know has at one point said “I just don’t have time!”

So here are a few helpful hints to help you find little pockets of time to work your business in the midst of your ultra busy life.

One thing that has been extremely helpful with me and my business has been to write down how I spend all of my time during the week. Now I don’t just mean “home” or “at work” but every single thing that you do during the day.

For instance I found that during a certain day of the week I was watching 3 hours of TV and on another night I was just surfing the internet for a couple hours not really accomplishing anything.

I promise you that even if you have the busiest of schedules if you do this exercise you’ll find a ton of time you never even knew you had!

Another thing you can do to find more time for your business is to get up one hour earlier in the morning or go to bed one hour later at night. Of course I don’t want you to be dead tired during the next day but one hour isn’t really that much and you can get a lot accomplished during that time.

A lot of people find it to be very effective to work their home based business on their lunch break from work. If you get an hour for lunch you can eat for the first 15 minutes and then make calls for the last 45. You can have some good conversations in 45 minutes.

Remember that finding time to work your home based business is all a matter of desire. If you really want to make it happen you can do it no matter what your schedule looks like while others can have a ton of time but very little desire and therefore get nothing done.

Make the choice to find time every single day to work on building your business. A home based business is like nothing else because you build it once and it will take care of you for a very, very long time. Make some small sacrifices now for a huge payoff in the future.

Many people want to know how to spot the perfect home based business or mlm prospect. I mean after all if you can spot them you can talk to them and if you talk to them you might just start signing up a whole lot more people right?

So who exactly is the perfect or ideal mlm prospect?

Many people believe it’s middle aged males… some people believe it’s stay at home moms… and some others believe it’s young excited 20 somethings. The truth is though there really isn’t an ideal home based business prospect. Sorry, believe me I wish there was, It really would make prospecting much easier.

There is absolutely no science involved in choosing who would be good for a home based business and who wouldn’t be and if you try to narrow it down and find the right demographic you’ll probably be disappointed.

The fact of the matter is that old people, young people, men, women and people of every different occupation, and race have found success working from home and the winners are not always easy to spot. That’s why you have to talk to as many people as possible to find them.

I have seen many people who make 6 figures or more in mlm who would never stand out in a room full of people. The only difference between them and the people who fail in network marketing is their hard work… that’s really it.

Even I have fallen into the trap of saying “wow so and so would be so good in this business” but guess what those extraverted, excitable, dynamic people are usually no more successful than the hard working soft spoken single mom. It’s just all about desire.

There is no age or skill set or specific look that will point out a great prospect from a bad one so don’t bother looking for the signs.

Your absolute best chance at finding the great prospects is to talk to as many people as possible in the shortest amount of time. So get started because you never know if the next person you talk to will be a dud or the person who makes you a hundred thousand dollars!
