If you wished to own a business in the early days of the Internet, in the mid to late 1990s, before the real birth of the Internet Home Based Business, it had to be a Traditional Bricks and Mortar Business. Can you recall the Dot Com explosion, eventually leading to highly speculative investments, which inevitably lead to the popping of the Dot Com bubble?

Well, even those Dot Coms had “real” offices in a physical location somewhere. They had to pay overheads for those places like rent, utilities, and salaries to employees. And to this very day, even though they may very much be an Internet Based Business, the Dot Com giants like Yahoo, Google, and Amazon still do the very same thing.

Whilst the trend towards people owning their own home-based businesses may have actually begun in the early 1990s, before Windows 95, and before the Internet became hugely popular, these giants certainly helped to usher in a whole new business model for the 21st century–the Internet Home Based Business.. At first, however, whilst these people were helping some other company save money on overheads such as salaries and production costs, they continued to do physical tasks such as assembling and selling computers, only they were doing this from the basement or a simple room in their home rather than an office.

This home-based business model was merely an extension of semi-home-based businesses that had been around for a long time, such as selling life insurance. It was better than the rat race…but it was still fraught with a lot of risk and plenty of costs.

A “Bricks and Mortar” Home Business is fine, but it is clear that there are many advantages that the Internet Home Based Business has over these traditional Home Business models.

* Affiliate Marketing has become very popular, and when done correctly can be done at a fairly low cost. No computer parts, for example, need to be delivered to your home, and no inventory etc is necessary. All that is needed is to do the marketing online.

* You don’t need to sell from a physical store front, so you can be selling the products twenty-four-seven. You can make money in your sleep and while you’re on vacation as people from all over the world shop online at all hours of the day and night–earning you pay every time they buy a product through you from your Internet Home Based Business.

* Much of the communication needed for the Internet Home based business can be done with the use of email, IM, and auto-responders. Although usually a telephone IS a necessity, with a few business models even this is not an essential.

So, what exactly ARE the ingredients to make an Internet Home Based Business a success?

* Firstly an attractive and dynamic website is needed.

* Simple, secure payment methods–these will essentially be credit/debit cards or PayPal.

* Being able to accept credit/debit card payments securely or Paypal.

* Giving excellent (great) customer service and good value to people.

Possibly the best thing about the Internet Home Based Business in this day and age however, is that you are able to take tried and tested ideas and make them work. It is not necessary to take massive risks such as those taken by the Dot Coms, and which sank so many. Anyone who truly has the WILL to succeed CAN be successful in working from home, if they are simply willing to put in the effort. So – What are YOU waiting for?
